Port Authority of Catania
The Catania Port Authority is a public institution established by law n. 84/94 and its tasks are addressing, programming, promoting and controlling the port operations; it is also in charge of maintaining the port common areas and of implementing the activities of general interest. One of the most important objectives of the Port Authority is promoting the port in Italy and abroad. Internationalization has to be reached through the inclusion of the port into an overseas context.
Administrative and supervisory bodies
The Port Authority has his own financial and budgetary autonomy and it is supervised by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and by a special section of the Court of Auditors. It is formed by three collegial bodies, the local Advisory Committee, the Port Committee and the College of Auditors. The local Advisory Committee takes decision regarding port works’ subjects, in which the local administrations and the social partners are represented and it takes decisions on the major acts for the institution management. The college of Auditors, which members are invited to participate in the works of the Port Committee, is in charge of controlling the Port Authority management acts, in order to verify their accounting compliance.
Port Security
According to the International Ship and Port Security Code, the Port Authority drew up and approved the Port Facility security Plan, enforced on July 1st , 2004, once approved by the Maritime Authority. This Security Plan, in addition to all procedures to reduce risks in case of a terroristic attack during ship calling at the port, provides for intervention on the infrastructures.
